Badaling Great Wall is known for its imposing magnitude. The wall here averages 7.8 meters in height and has a width of 5.7 meters at the top and 6.5 meters at the base. The walkway on top is 4.5 meters wide, making it possible for five horses or ten soldiers to march abreast. It is one of the most gorgeous and magnificent parts of the Great Wall in Beijing.

Gubeikou was a strategic pass of the Great Wall in ancient times, offering an important access to Inner Mongolia and northeast of China. The main part of the Gubeikou Great Wall was first built in the Ming Dynasty 1368, and composed of two main sections - Panlongshan Great Wall (the Coiled Dragon Mountain Great Wall) and Wohushan Great Wall (the Crouching Tiger Mountain Great Wall).

Huanghuacheng (literally meaning "Yellow Flower City") Great Wall (黄花城), about 60 km north of downtown Beijing, is one of the most ruined sections of the wall in Beijing. It has become popular with hikers in recent years. This section of the great wall is about 1000 meters long and connecting Juyongguan Pass Great Wall and Badaling Great Wall in the west and Jiankou Great Wall and Mutianuyu Great Wall in the east. Now it is quite a challenge to climb the wall since it is overgrown and treacherous.
Huanghuacheng was an area littered with many villages in Yuan Dynasty. Later in Ming Dynasty it turned into a rich and prosperous area due to the construction of the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng as strategically important Benzhenguan Pass.

Jiankou Great Wall is the greatest and most photogenic section of the Great Wall around Beijing. It is wild and totally unrestored. The tumbledown and crumbling brickwork snakes along a narrow mountain ridge. Mutianyu Great Wall was built in 1404. The fortifications and the Great Wall here are featured by many watchtowers on overlapping mountain ranges. The wall, built with slabs of stone, is crenellated on both sides with bricks. The wall provided better protection and ward off attacks with Jiankou in the west and Gubeikou in the east.
Currently, Jiankou Great Wall is still not officially open to mass tourism due to its risky hike as well as the government’s policy to protect the “wild wall”. If you choose to walk from Zhengbeilou at Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall, the risk involved would be less. But still, you should apply for travel insurance for your coverage of injury or accident.

Jinshanling Great Wall (金山岭长城) is located about 130 km in the northeast of the downtown Beijing. To its east stands the Simatai Great Wall and the west stands Gubeikou Great Wall. Jinshangling Great Wall was named after the mountain called Jinshan Mountains. The Jinshanling Great Wall was first constructed built in the Ming Dynasty. The famous general, Xu Da, of the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) supervised and directed the construction of the Great Wall. Later, Qi Jiguang led a number of defense works while guarding the north area in 1567.
This section has a total length of 11 kilometers. The Wall is about seven to eight meters in height and five to six meters in width. The wall is made of brick and stone. The Jinshanling Great Wall is 700 meters above sea level. You can see Beijing from the highest place on the Jinshanling Great Wall.

Juyongguan, literally "Juyong Pass" (居庸关), is situated in a valley named "Guangou" as long as 20 kilometers, which is within Changping District over 50 kilometers north from downtown Beijing. It is one of the three most famous passes of the Great Wall in China. The other two passes are Shanhai Pass and Jiayuguan Pass. The Great Wall around the Pass extends over 4 km, snaking the ridge of the mountains forming the valley. The natural landscape surrounding the Pass is extremely beautiful.
Juyongguan used to be an ancient military town full of military installations, watchtowers, official residences, temples, and other structures. Juyongguan Pass was first built in the Ming Dynasty and received much repair later. It was a very important strategic area linking the inner land and the area close to the northern border of China. The Juyongguan Pass has been well known for its strategic importance for over 2,000 years.

The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall (慕田峪长城) is located in Huairou district, about 80 km north from downtown Beijing. The Mutianyu Great Wall is less crowded than the Badaling Great Wall.
There are 23 towers on the Mutianyu Great Wall snaking the ridge for about 3000 meters. The watchtowers at the Mutianyu Great Wall are distributed at short intervals. The 23 watchtowers are numbered from right (east) to left (west). The 23rd tower is the highest point of the Mutianyu Great Wall. In any Great Wall hike, it is good for your legs to hike up than to hike down. So we suggest you hike the Mutianyu Great Wall from the left to the right (from the east to the west).

There are three ways to get onto the Wall. Apart from hiking up on foot, you can choose to take the cable car or chairlift (Optional).
To get down the wall, you can also take the Toboggan slide down (Optional).
When you get off the ferry shuttle bus going from the shuttle bus terminal near the ticketing office, you still need to walk along an accessible stone path (600 meters long ) leading up first to the starting point for chairlift ( or toboggan down ), second to the walking path up to the Wall and last to the starting point for the cable car up to the Wall respectively.
So the mostly used Cable Car Station is at the end of the 600-meter stone slope. That said, there are three ways to go up to Mutianyu Great Wall.
The hike from Watchtower No. 14 east up to Watchtower 23 is the most scenic part of Mutianyu Great Wall. Many people would choose to take the cable car up to Watchtower No.14 and hike east to Watchtower No.23. You may retrace to Watch Tower No.14 and take the cable car down the wall, or continue to hike down to Watch Tower No.8 and walk down the wall; or you may continue to hike down to Watch Tower No.6, then either take chairlift down or toboggan down.
The Simatai section of the Great Wall (司马台长城) is located in the northeast of Miyun County, about 140 kilometers from downtown Beijing. It was first built in the early Hongwu years (1368-1398) of the Ming Dynasty. The Simatai Great Wall is cut into two parts by the Simatai Reservoir, over which there is a chain bridge running through east to west.
The Simatai Great Wall is 5 km long with a total of 28 watchtowers (East 16 and West 12). Constructed by the Ming Dynasty general Qi Ji Guang, it is one of the few stretches of the Wall that still preserve the original look of that period. It not only features unique points from other Great Wall sections but also shows some features found nowhere. To the west, there are 12 watchtowers snaking on the sloping hills. To the east, there are 16 watchtowers atop peaks up to 1,000 meters high.
The views are amazing. The wall at Simatai has received very little renovation. So Simatai Great Wall still retains all its original look. It is well beyond the reach of the great crowds of visitors who come to the more popular and easily accessible parts of the Wall.

We will meet you at the airport or hotel and take you to the Mutianyu Great Wall for a 2-hour hike. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is located in Huairou District, about 80 km north of downtown Beijing. It offers picturesque views and is less crowded than the Badaling Great Wall. Mutianyu Great Wall served as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. It is a green section of the Great Wall in Beijing, with vegetation and green trees covering 90 percent of the section.
After the 2-hour Great Wall hike, we will transfer you to downtown Beijing, passing by the Bird's Nest and Water Cube for an outside look. The Bird's Nest stadium hosted the main track and field events, football, and the final competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.
Finally, we will take you back to our pre-arranged hotel, and you will be free to leisure for the remainder of the day.
After breakfast at your hotel, we will first head to Tiananmen Square for 40 minutes of sightseeing. Tiananmen Square is the largest public square in the world and is the site for massive parades and rallies. It is the location where Chairman Mao proclaimed the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949 from a rostrum on Tiananmen (the Gate of Heavenly Peace).
Next, we will visit the Forbidden City for 2 hours of sightseeing. The Forbidden City served as the Chinese imperial palace from the mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty, spanning almost 500 years. It was the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government.
After lunch, we will continue to the Temple of Heaven for 1.5 hours of sightseeing. The Temple of Heaven is where the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for peace and harvest. It is located in the southern part of Beijing and has been one of the holiest places in the country for over five centuries.
After visiting the Temple of Heaven, we will transfer you to Beijing airport or railway station for your next destination.

Cuandixia Village is located in Zhaitang Town, Mentougou District, about 90 kilometers away from downtown Beijing. It has a history of about 400 years and keeps more than 70 courtyards with approximately 500 rooms which were built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). This ancient mountain village, the best preserved in China, covers an area of about 10,000 square meters and is renowned as the 'Potala Palace' of the Beijing area.
The village, surrounded by mountains, stands on the northern gentle slope of the hills and, having been built in harmony with the terrain of the mountains, it looks like a castle or a mountain city. A winding and rugged lane built from many oddly-shaped stones, winds its way from east to west and divides the village into two groups.
There are mainly quadrangle dwellings and a few courtyards with houses on three sides. The houses, which are in good order, have delicate gate piers as well as distinctive screen walls and, along with the stone, wood and brick carvings reflect the ancient Chinese culture.

The sightseeing and leisure travel area of Gubei Water Town opened on a trial basis, consisting of 6 areas, including the Old Barracks Area, Minguo Street Area (Republic of China Street), Water Street Area, and Wonglong.
The Simatai section of the Great Wall is located in the northeast of Miyun County, about 140 kilometers from downtown Beijing.
Constructed by the Ming Dynasty general Qi Ji Guang, it is one of the few stretches of the Wall that still preserves the original look of that period. It not only features unique points from other Great Wall sections but also shows some features found nowhere. To the west, there are 12 watchtowers snaking on the sloping hills. To the east, there are 16 watchtowers atop peaks up to 1,000 meters high.
The views are amazing, and the wall at Simatai has received very little renovation, retaining its original look. It is well beyond the reach of the great crowds of visitors who come to the more popular and easily accessible parts of the Wall.
